What Is New in ColorOS 17?
ColorOS 17 further builds upon its fluid design language and smooth software interface with the new Liquid Flow aesthetics, adding more transparency and contoured glass effects across the UI. It takes a noticeable inspiration from Apple’s Liquid Glass aesthetics, but adds its own twists. The update also adds a bunch of new performance improvements, security features and AI-enhancements. Let’s take a quick look at ColorOS 17’s key features.
Living Flow Design
ColorOS 17 introduces Living Flow Design, bringing Luminous Effects that add a dynamic glow to elements and backgrounds, Fluid Motion that brings elastic and organic animations, and Flexible Feedback that adjusts haptic and visual response based on how the interface is used.
Live Capsule and Media Controls
The notification shade gets a redesigned Live Capsule media player, and ColorOS 17 supports simultaneous audio playback through two connected Bluetooth devices. Live Activities from apps like food delivery and ride-hailing services also get a refreshed look inside the capsule.
Performance
Two new system-level engines handle the under-the-hood improvements. The Unified Rendering Architecture consolidates how the system draws frames, and the Laminar Flow Engine handles resource scheduling. Oppo claims these improve app launch speeds, reduce rendering workload, and improve multitasking stability.
AI Features
Oppo AI gets a major expansion with ColorOS 17. AI Mind Pilot can perform multi-step tasks across apps without any intervention. Photo Agent is more capable of removing unwanted objects and adjusting image tones accurately. Mind Space and AI Mind Suggest can organise information and surface relevant suggestions based on usage patterns.
OSee is an object recognition and real-time information. AI Live Interpreter provides real-time translation during calls when paired with compatible earbuds. AI Call Guard detects AI-synthesised voices and AI-generated face swaps during calls to flag potential scams.
Privacy and Security
Private Computing Cloud is a new framework for processing sensitive AI tasks off-device while keeping personal data encrypted end-to-end. A Transparency Report now logs which services were used and what operations were performed, giving a clear audit trail.
