Summary: Qualcomm has launched two flagship processors at Snapdragon Summit 2026, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both are built on TSMC’s 2nm process with CPU speeds up to 5GHz, but the Extreme version gets a bigger AI engine, better video recording and a better gaming hardware.
Qualcomm has broken from its usual one-chip-a-year routine. At Snapdragon Summit 2026, the company launched two flagship mobile processors, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both built on TSMC’s 2nm process, making them the first 2nm smartphone chips to go official.

These chips have been in the rumor mills for a while now, but today Qualcomm finally made them official. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gem 6 are the two new chips launched today. They share the same Oryon CPU with a new 2+(3+3) core layout, where 2 prime cores run at up to 5 GHz and the remaining 6 cores clocked up to 4 GHz.

Both support LPDDR5x or LPDDR6 memory respectively. Similarly, the standard model maxes out at UFS 4.1 storage while the extreme offers faster UFS 5.0 storage support. There’s also Qualcomm’s X105 5G modem for connectivity on both, with download speeds up to 14.8Gbps.
Where the two chips differ is in AI, cameras and gaming. The Extreme version gets a 50% larger shared memory on its AI engine, so it can run AI models with over 30 billion parameters on the phone itself. The standard chip handles smaller models. Both chips come with Qualcomm’s new Sensing Hub, which can run small AI models of up to 200 million parameters in the background.
For cameras, the Extreme version supports 8K video at 60 FPS and 4K slow-motion at 240 FPS, while the standard chip does 8K at 30 FPS and 4K slow-motion at 120 FPS. The Extreme also gets the new Advanced Professional Video codec.
For gaming, it adds dedicated Adreno matrix cores and a feature called Neural Fusion, which handles AI-based frame generation and upscaling inside the GPU itself rather than routing it through the AI engine, saving up to 40% power.
Motorola announced the Signature 27 as the first phone with the Extreme chip. Qualcomm has named Xiaomi, OnePlus and Vivo as launch partners, with devices expected in the coming weeks. The recently teased Xiaomi 18 Pro series, launching in China on September 23, 2026, is also going to be among the first phones to use these chips.
